Pear Rabbits Sculpture

Pear Rabbits
Material: Fiber glass

Pear Rabbits is related to a body of work I have been developing over the years. Hybrid creatures have always been a part of my work, appearing in paintings, prints and small sculptures. The animal/vegetable hybrids (that usually stand in for humans) have been a way for me to explore ideas of transformation and the notion of the Self. It has been a way for me to express myself as an immigrant in this country. I was inspired by educational models used by medical professionals and science museums during the design process. The cutaway view will create a moment of surprise that will engage viewers, creating a memorable experience that will allow the viewer to interpret the piece in their own way.

The environment I chose is the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center. The many straight lines and right angles will be a powerful contrast to the sculpture’s sensual organic shapes as well as the colors. I think that the Pear hybrid will be an inspiring moment for the students and visitors.
